Does Kompakt support RCS messaging?

No. Kompakt does not support RCS (Rich Communication Services), and Mudita does not plan to add it. Kompakt sends and receives texts and photos as standard SMS and MMS.

What you can do with SMS and MMS on Kompakt

• Send and receive texts and picture messages with any phone.
• Text several people at once. Since MuditaOS K 1.4.0 you can pick, for each SIM card, either a single MMS group chat (everyone sees all replies) or separate SMS chats (each person replies to you privately).
• Get notifications for group chat messages and switch SIM cards inside the same group conversation.

To check you have group messaging, make sure Kompakt runs MuditaOS K 1.4.0 or later. See MuditaOS K 1.4.0.

Switching from an iPhone or Android phone

Your old phone may have registered your number for iMessage or RCS chat. Until that is switched off, other phones may try to send you chat messages that Kompakt cannot receive. Do this before you move your SIM card:

1. On an iPhone: turn off iMessage, FaceTime and RCS Messaging in Settings.
2. On an Android phone: turn off RCS chats in your messaging app settings.
3. Move your SIM card to Kompakt.

Community members report that the change can take some time to reach the network. If you still miss messages from one person, ask them to check that their phone sends to you as SMS or MMS.

Can I use a chat app instead?

Kompakt has no app store and no built-in chat app like WhatsApp or Signal. You can sideload Android apps through Mudita Center, but they are not optimized for the E-ink screen, and apps that depend on Google services likely won't work correctly.
