Mudita Kompakt initial setup
Insert your SIM, press the power button, pick a language, join Wi-Fi, accept the licence, set a 6-digit passcode and add a fingerprint on the power button. Install any update the phone offers at the end.
How to insert a physical SIM card
Open the tray with the SIM Key, put the SIM in with the gold side down, and slide the tray back into Kompakt.
How to add an eSIM
Switch to eSIM mode, then Settings, Network & Internet, SIM Cards, Add eSIM, and scan your carrier QR code. Kompakt holds one physical SIM plus either a second SIM or an eSIM, not both.
How to find your phone number
You can find the phone numbers for each of your installed SIM cards in the SIM status screen.
Switching to Kompakt from a smartphone
Here is the plan. Nine steps in the order that saves you trouble: a little prep on your old phone, about an hour on switch day, and a calm first month. Keep your number, bring what matters, leave the rest.
From smartphone to Kompakt: what the first month is really like
The first month is mostly about habits. Expect a few awkward days, then a couple of weeks solving messaging, maps and banking, and a clear picture by the end of the month.

Should I buy the Global or North American Kompakt?
The North American Kompakt is tuned for US and Canadian carriers, the Global version for the rest of the world. They differ in some supported network bands.
Does Kompakt support third-party apps?
Yes, you can sideload third-party apps through Mudita Center on MuditaOS 1.2.0 or later. They are not optimized for Kompakt, so some may not work as intended.
Does Kompakt support RCS messaging?
No. Kompakt does not support RCS (Rich Communication Services) and there are no plans to add it. Messages go over standard SMS and MMS.
Does Kompakt have WhatsApp or Signal?
The Kompakt does not include a dedicated messaging app like WhatsApp or Signal. It has a built-in app for SMS and MMS messaging.
Can Kompakt record or play videos?
No. Kompakt cannot record or play videos. The camera takes photos only.
Can I scan QR codes with Kompakt?
The only QR codes the Mudita Kompakt can scan are those with eSIM configuration data. It has no general QR scanner and no internet browser to open links.
How long does the Kompakt battery last?
The Mudita Kompakt offers up to 6 days of standby time, with a built-in 3300mAh Li-Polymer battery.
Does Kompakt support speech-to-text?
No. Kompakt does not currently support speech-to-text or voice typing. Mudita may look at it for a future update.
Can Kompakt be rooted?
It is technically possible for advanced users to access the bootloader and flash a different OS, but Mudita advises against it and gives no official support. Installing a different OS voids the warranty.
Is Offline+ more secure than airplane mode?
Yes. Offline+ provides extra security compared to airplane mode: it physically cuts off power to the GSM module and disables all three microphones at the hardware level.
Is Kompakt open-source?
Mudita Kompakt is built on a custom version of AOSP. The entire source code won't be released due to licensing restrictions on certain components, but Mudita is considering making parts of it public.
What are the SAR values for Kompakt?
The Mudita Kompakt doesn't focus on achieving the lowest possible SAR rating, but it still has relatively low SAR values compared to many other phones on the market.
How durable is Kompakt against drops and scratches?
The Mudita Kompakt underwent extensive drop testing to confirm that its design is robust enough to handle common, everyday use. It has an IP54 rating and an 8H matte mineral glass screen, but it is not waterproof.

Mudita Kompakt measures 70mm x 128mm x 12.6mm, weighs 164g and has a 4.3" E-ink touchscreen, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage expandable with microSD and a 3300 mAh battery.
Which SIM card setups does Kompakt support?
The Kompakt has one dedicated SIM slot and one hybrid slot for a second SIM or a microSD card. It can also hold one eSIM, which deactivates the second SIM slot, but a microSD card still works.
Can I transfer files between Kompakt and my computer?
You can connect and transfer files (like music, pictures, ebooks and more) between your Kompakt and computer thanks to the built-in USB MTP protocol. You can also use the desktop app Mudita Center.
Which countries does Mudita ship Kompakt to?
The global Kompakt ships to 39 countries across Europe plus Australia, New Zealand and Turkey. The North American Kompakt ships to Canada and the United States.
How does GPS work on Kompakt?
Kompakt finds your location mainly from GPS satellites, without Wi-Fi or Bluetooth scanning. Location sharing is off by default: turn it on for the system and for each app.
Is the Kompakt E-ink display flicker-free?
Yes. The Kompakt E-ink display is flicker-free and meets IEEE Std 1789-2015.
How do I install third-party apps with Mudita Center?
Connect your Kompakt to Mudita Center, go to Manage Files > App installers, add your .apk file, then click it and accept the installation risk.
Can I use Kompakt as a hotspot?
Yes, you can set up a hotspot to share your internet connection (tethering). Go to Settings > Network and Internet > Hotspot and Tethering > Wi-Fi Hotspot, or use the Hotspot icon in the Control Center.

Low call volume or no data on US carriers
Usually a carrier restriction, not a fault. Activate the SIM in another phone first, prefer a physical SIM, set the APN manually, or move to T-Mobile or a T-Mobile-based carrier (Mint Mobile, Tello, US Mobile).
How to do a factory reset on Kompakt
Back up in Mudita Center first. Then Settings, System, Factory Reset, and confirm Factory Reset. Everything on the phone is deleted; your MuditaOS K version stays the same.
An OS update fails on Kompakt
Try the update again on a stable connection, check that downloads over mobile data are allowed, then restart. A factory reset is the last resort.
Files do not show when connecting Kompakt via USB-C
If you connect Kompakt to your computer but can’t see your files, you’ll need to allow file transfer.
Ghost message sound with no notification
Update Kompakt first: older versions could play the tone for group messages they could not show. If it continues, the sound may come from an app you installed yourself.
I forgot my Kompakt PIN or screen pattern
If you forget your PIN or screen pattern, you will need to perform a factory reset to regain access. This erases all data on the phone.
