Updated 28 Sep 2026
Short answerGo to Settings, Accessibility, Timing controls and change Touch and hold delay.

Go to Settings, Accessibility and change Touch and hold delay in the timing section. It sets how long you need to press the screen before a long press action happens.

Change the delay

  1. Press the Control Center button
  2. Tap the Settings icon
  3. Tap Accessibility
  4. Tap Timing controls
  5. Tap Touch and hold delay
  6. Select the delay you want

Which setting to pick

  • Choose a longer delay if you open menus or select items by accident.
  • Choose a shorter delay if long presses feel slow, for example when selecting messages or notes.

The delay applies to long press actions in apps.
